| Sights & Activities - Pai |
| The small town of Pai lies at a distance of 135 kms from Chiang Mai and
111 kms from Maehongson. Within Pai district there are approximately
20 000 inhabitants coming from a mixture of ethnic groups, including
Shan, Northern Thai, Lesu, Lahu, Karen, Haw Chinese and some Hmong.
The town itself nestles in a beautiful valley and there are numerous
small villages dotted around the mountains. With many places of interest
for the tourist to visit, Pai should definitely be included on the
travel itinerary of every visitor to the province of Maehongson. |

Huay Nam Dang National Park
This National Park extends from Amphur Pai to Amphur Mae Taeng in Chiang Mai Province, covering an area of about 179.5 sq. km. (or 112,187.5 rai). The park is surrounded by tall mountain ranges and its highest peak is Doi Chang which is home to watershed forests, streams and creeks. The Forestry Department runs a Water Resource Development Project in the park where they successfully grow a lot of European plants and flowers. Mae Yen Waterfall
At the source of the Mae Yen River, Mae Yen Waterfall is about 12 kms
from the town, located deep in the forest along a trail where there
are no villages. The walk is beautiful and the waterfall is impressive.
As the trail is so small, you cannot take any vehicles up to the falls.
It’s best to ask for directions from local people before you set off
and to make sure you take plenty of water and some food as this trek
will take you the whole day. |

Tha Pai Hot Springs
Tha Pai Hot Springs are part of a national park just 8 kms south of
Pai. There is a stream running through the hot springs and you can
choose either to bath in the river or in bathtubs that have been built
on the site. You can get to the springs by foot, bicycle, motorbike
or car. |

Muang Pang Hot Spring
It is a large natural hot spring with a temperature of 95 degree celcius
and still instantly dashing. |

Rafting along Pai river
Rafting on the Pai River, which is the main river in Maehongson district
with its approximately length of 180 kms. 30 meter width 7 meter depth
is difficult during the rainy season but best enjoyed during the winter.
The Pai River is the biggest and adventurous lover to raft along this
river You can choose to go on bamboo rafts or rubber rafe enjoy the
views from the river on a long tail boat from Maehongson you can do
1-2 hour rafting trips on the river. Tourists should have proffessional
rafting guides because the Pai river has rough current. .You will experience
the freshness and beauty of nature and the lives of many different
jungle creatures, such as birds. |

Nam Hu Temple
About 3 kilometers from Pia Market contain a sacred Chaing Saen Budddha image, 24 inches wide at the base and 30 inches inches high. The image’s topknot can be opened and contained holy water, revered by local folk. |

Mae Yen Temple
Mae Yen temple is located halfway up a mountain and once you have climbed
the 350 steps to get there the views over the valley are tremendous,
covering a radius of around 10kms. There is an interesting old chedi
at the temple and also murals that were painted by a local artist about
the previous lives of the Buddha. |

Mo Paeng Waterfall
From the town center you can walk up to Mo Paeng Waterfall, passing through
two Shan, one Lesu, one Haw Chinese and one Lahu village. The walk is 8
kms long and takes about 2 hours each way. You can also go either by bicycle,
motorbike or car. Once at the falls, you can swim in one of the three pools. |
Kongland
Kongland is in Ban Rong Yang, 7 km from Pai district. It features tall eroded cliffs, just like those at Pa Muang Phee in Phrae Province, and covers around 8,000 sq. m. off the Mae Malai-Pai route. You can visit any time. |
Santi Chon Village
This Chin Haw village, about 4.5 km from Amphur Pai, takes pride in maintaining its cultural traditions, such as costume, language and, in particular, Yunnanese cuisine. It’s a very popular destination for tourists who can combine a tour of the village with lunch. Contact 0-1024-3982. |
Mae Ping Karen Village
It is located in Mu 4, Tambon Mae Hi. The Karens here have their own
alphabets and are highly civized. |
